Lynn Chadwick died after making Ace of Diamonds, in 2003. The boy you see in the photo, my son, was born in April 25 of 2003. Art never dies, as a work of steel, and as a photo.
Lynn Chadwick
1914 - 2003
— It seems to me that art must be the manifestation of some vital force from the dark, caught by the imagination and translated by the artist's ability and skill.
Chadwick began working in stainless steel in 1988 which led to new developments in his artistic career. The large format and razor sharp silhouette of Ace of Diamonds are characteristic of Chadwick’s best-known works. It is a mobile, a kinetic piece, and despite its size it is able to rotate elegantly in the wind, while its 2-part construction creates an apparently endless number of geometric effects. Chadwick has been working with geometric shapes since the seventies. His diamonds or pyramids became feminine shapes in his work, while rectangles symbolise the male. The combination of the shapes in this work may symbolise the interaction between the male and the female in a controlled and elegant interplay.
